10 Ways to use batteries in a home when electricity isn't an option

If you live in an area where power outages are frequent, it would be a great idea to power your home when there is no electricity. Let’s take a look at 10 ways to power your home when there is no electricity.

1)      Solar energy.

By purchasing a few solar-powered batteries and chargers (for your cell phones, computers, etc), you could always have back-up power when the lights go out. Of course, you would need to keep these batteries charged at all times and these batteries work best in areas with a lot of sunshine.

2) Manual chargers.

A hand-crank charger is a great option if you are not certain if your solar chargers or batteries will be sufficiently charged during a power outage. Although these do require a bit of effort to acquire the power, they can be a godsend during an outage.

3) Portable battery charger.

A portable battery charger requires an electricity connection for charging to take place and you would need to remember to always keep it charged up. However, these devices can help when there is a power failure and you need to power up some lights, your computer, or your phone.

4) Computer battery.

An often overlooked battery in a power failure is your laptop or computer’s battery. As long as you always keep this charged up, it can act as a charger during a power outage for your cell phone and other small devices that can be charged via a USB port.

5) Car battery.

Car batteries do not require a connection to the main electrical grid to charge and most cars today have USB ports into which you can charge small devices such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, and music playing devices. The car would need to be switched on for this to work and we recommend running your car outside in your driveway to prevent an accumulation of carbon monoxide.

6) AA or AAA batteries.

AA and AAA batteries are the unsung heroes of power generation. If you always have a handful of these kinds of batteries in the home, you will be better prepared for a power outage. These can be used in flashlights, radios and other small electrical items to help save the day.

7) Back-up lithium-ion battery.

A lithium-ion battery can be charged from an electrical outlet or via your solar panels and can hold a charge for a long period. Most have USB sockets, AC outlets and can power a wide range of small appliances.

8) Solar power panels.

Having solar power panels installed on your roof could be a lifesaver if there is a power outage and you could easily live off solar power, even when there is a long power outage.

9) Wind-powered batteries.

Another excellent option if you live in an area that has a lot of wind is to use wind-powered batteries. This is a fantastic, clean source of energy!

10) BATTERY POWER BANK WITH LED light.

Used to recharge cell phones and tablets. LED light can provide your home with some much-needed light during a power outage.  Some also have the option to be recharged from a solar source.
