Brand Ambassador Hannes Smit

National Operations Manager for Outdoor Warehouse and Brand Ambassador for Enertec Batteries & CTEK Battery Chargers: Hannes Smit

Hannes Smit is an avid fisherman! During a fishing session Hannes would complete between 2 to 12 bait drops. This means that you would either require 10 replacement batteries or you need to charge up your LiPo batteries in between.

Due to the high cost of LiPo batteries is makes sense to rather charge these batteries from a 12V source while fishing. To charge the drone battery he uses the Enertec Poweroad 22A lithium as a power source. After a day of fishing he recharges the Poweroad battery using a CTEK 5A lithium charger from an electrical source.

Hannes Smit's Background

Hannes grew up in Polokwane and went to high school in Garsfontein, Pretoria. He currently resides in Benoni, Johannesburg.

He is now the National Operations manager for Outdoor Warehouse.

For the past 20 years Hannes has been actively involved in numerous outdoor activities. His passions are fishing, hiking and camping

Experience & Skills

Hannes has completed a BA degree in Human Movement Science in 1997 at the University of Pretoria. In Feb 1998 he worked as the Recreational Manager at Cathedral Peak Hotel, where he arranged outdoor activities for guests. This included hiking, horse riding, golf and fly-fishing excursions.

On 1 May 1999 he joined Sportsman’s Warehouse as a fishing specialist in their Outdoor Department. Through the years Hannes skilled himself as a retailer and worked himself up the ranks when he was promoted to Regional Operations Manager, and in June 2012 to National Operations Manager, which means looking after more than 20 stores in SA.

Hannes Smit's Hobbies & Interests

From 2005 to 2017 Hannes competed at provincial level in the Rock and Surf fishing League for Gauteng North. From 2012 – 2017 he represented Gauteng North at SAASA National championships for Rock and Surf fishing.

Hannes enjoys all aspects of fishing. (Lures, freshwater and Rock & Surf fishing). He is now focussed on shark fishing and one of the latest

techniques currently being used to catch large sharks is called Drone fishing. A drone is used to drop large baits at distances ranging 200 -500m from the shoreline.

This type of fishing is very specialised, where heavy fishing tackle, purpose build drones, and very technical equipment to power the drone is required for success.

Hannes uses a Sharkan Enigma drone, which is a purpose designed fishing drone. This drone uses a 6 cell, 5000 or 6000mAmp, 22.2 Volt LiPo battery for power.
